TAYplan and Univeristy of Dundee Youth Camp 2017

June 20th, 2017

DOZENS of young people from all over Tayside and North Fife have gathered in Dundee to learn more about how places can change and how they can influence the process.

Pupils from six secondary schools across the TAYplan area were taking part in a one day Youth Camp at Dundee University.

The event gave them the chance to think about where they live, study and work by taking part in a number of workshops.  It also created an opportunity for them to consider a career in planning.

Planning matters such as design, accessibility and climate change were considered as part of the afternoon session when the young people working in their school groups developed a 'sustainable place'.

At the end of the session Cllr Will Dawson Dundee City Council, Helen O’Connor, Head of Architecture and Uban Planning at Dundee University’s school of social sciences and Dundee City Council’s Gordon Reid who is service manager development plans, judged the entries.

TAYplan and its four constituent local authorities will use the conclusions of the day to help inform future local and strategic development plans.

Set up in 2008 TAYplan provides the strategy for the location of major development in Dundee, Angus, Perth and Kinross and North Fife areas.

It submitted its latest Proposed Strategic Development Plan to Scottish Ministers in June last year.
